A tough week for the Swans has taken an upturn with luckless Swan Alex Johnson on the verge of re-signing with the club. The out of contract defender underwent a 5th knee reconstruction earlier this year and was facing a nervous wait for a new contract. Having previously battled infections with previous knee reconstructions, including traditional and LARS, he ran for the first time in 906 days on solid ground in September.
His manager was forthright on the contract situation, declaring that Alex would still be with the club next season.
"He'll be contracted next year. (The Swans) are really excited about getting him back," Gieschen said.
"He should be available to hopefully do the majority of the pre-season and push for selection in the early part of the season."
This is fantastic news for the club and should he return to play just 1 senior AFL game, he will be the first player to overcome 5 knee reconstructions, a significant achievement. Daniel Menzel has overcome 4 knee reconstructions and proved to be an important player for the Cats throughout the season.
Best of luck to Alex, can't wait for you to sign that contract.
