It's absolutely fantastic to have him back at the club, even in a part-time capacity. Sam Reid banging 6 in one go and even Franklin looking more dangerous.
The influence he's had on the club since returning after years away from AFL football is telling. His knowledge of the game, goal kicking techniques and leading is almost unparalleled, and it's a massive boost for the team.
Longmire spoke positively of the impact that he expected Lockett would have on the team.
“It’s fantastic for our players to have access to Tony during our training sessions,” Longmire said.
“He obviously knows a thing or two about goal-kicking, and to be able to draw upon that experience and knowledge can only be a good thing for our players.
“We’ve been wanting to get Tony back for quite a few years now.
“He seems to be keen to get involved, so it’s really good for our younger players in particular to have access to his knowledge.”
Fast forward a month, and we've had Franklin and Reid speak about the positive influence that he's had on them, changing their technique, ball drop and straightening their run in. It has been obvious with Franklin just how much of an impact he's had in the first two rounds.
And now he's digging his claws into Hayward. Only good things can come of this.
Here's to hoping that we keep him around for very long time. And hopefully on a permanent, full time basis.
