Player Ratings: vs Greater Western Sydney Round 5, 2017

It's fair to say that GWS are the best team in Sydney at the moment, and with three losses in a row its hard to argue. Apart from 30 minutes of good football from the Swans, the Giants dominated. Take away the first 5 minutes of the first quarter, and it was arguably the worst half of football the Swans played in well over a decade.

It can only go up from here, I hope.

	40: Nick Smith	5.5 More like the Nick Smith of old, tidy with the ball and defensively sound, but still not laying tackles.
	39: Heath Grundy	5 Outbodied by bigger opponents, copped a head knock early in the 3rd and rarely sighted aftwards, offered nothing in the forward line
	10: Zak Jones	7 Offered a lot of zip in the midfield, tackled hard (7), hard at the ball with 19, although had 6 clangers
	31: Harry Marsh	6 Easily beaten by the bigger bodied GWS forwards, but didn't drop his head and kept going at it, much better disposal
	43: Lewis Melican (R)	6 Fine debut from the young defender, physically beaten by his opponents. 13 disposals, 8 marks and a lot to like
	44: Jake Lloyd	6 29 disposals, 1 contested. Almost no penetration, least effective high disposal winner I've ever seen
	7: Harry Cunningham	6 Better game from Harry, starting to provide good link play on the wing and game-high 8 tackles
	12: Josh Kennedy	6 Way down on averages, barely had an impact on the game, kicked the first goal. 22 disposals, 8 clearances, desperately needs help
	14: Callum Mills	6.5 Never stopped trying all the way to the end, 7 marks, 21 disposals and 3 rebound 50s
	16: Gary Rohan	3.5 Looked unfit like he'd been rushed back, go figure. No match awareness at all, wouldn't feed players like Hayward
	23: Lance Franklin	6 Kicked 3 goals but struggled throughout the match, 6 clangers, still finished with 7 marks, 3 goals and 15 disposals
	5: Isaac Heeney	5 Looked unfit, 16 disposals, 7 contested and 2 tackles
	18: Callum Sinclair	5 Dominated in the ruck but managed to get himself a goal. 8 of 10 disposals contested along with 3 clearances. Better than Tippett
	20: Sam Reid	5 Couldn't get near it as a forward but swung back into defence with aplomb, helping the hapless undersized defence
	41: Tom Papley	4 Unfit and no form at all, shouldn't be playing
	8: Kurt Tippett	3 Typical garbage performance returning from injury. Kicked a goal, then handed the ball like soap for the rest of the game, out played by Sinclair
	26: Luke Parker	5 Showed glimpses throughout the game of brilliance and garbage, sometimes no where near it, sometimes couldn't get away from it
	4: Dan Hannebery	4.5 Finished with 22 after a limp 8 in the first half. Provided nothing across the field, but still worked hard with 8 tackles
	6: Jordan Foote	3 Worked hard with 5 tackles, but AFL is beyond him. Passenger throughout the game.
	9: Will Hayward	4 Couldn't get near it, and team mates wouldn't use him, chiefly Rohan. Still looked capable when he had opportunities
	15: Kieren Jack	2 The end is nigh. Finished with 12 at whisker over 40% DE, 3 clangers, a couple of tackles and inside 50s, but no run, no pressure, and absolutley nothing at the contests
	29: George Hewett	5.5 Great first half, but then faded badly in the 2nd. At times carrying the midfield.
