The Sydney Swans have finally entered the 2018 trade merry-go-round, trading rising Category B Rookie Sam Murray to Collingwood, with future picks exchanged.
Will full knowledge that landing Nick Blakey in 2018 may well be mission impossible without improved 2018 picks, the Swans agreed terms with Collingwood last night.
The Swans have parted ways with Sam Murray, their 2017 4th round pick and 2018 future 3rd round pick, and receive the Pies' 2018 future 2nd round pick.
Collingwood initially showed interest on Monday, with the young player a virtual unknown amongst the Victorian media.
Tall and quick, the young defender was overlooked for a TAC berth, recruited directly from country football in 2015.
Making his debut in the NEAFL as a forward in 2016, Sam showed promise, before greatly improving in 2017 as a running defender.
Despite the Swans' desire to retain Sam Murray as a Category A rookie, they've opted for a trade to ensure they get something in return, instead of Murray walking into the pre-season draft.
All the best Sam Murray!
