Injury Update: Reid in Giants mix

The Sydney Swans have received a major boost ahead of their blockbuster Sydney Derby XIV against Greater Western Sydney on Saturday night, with tall forward Sam Reid expected to be available.

Reid hasn't played since the pre-season after being a late withdrawal in Round 1 with hamstring tightness.

Speaking to HCF Injury Update, Swans Head of Football Tom Harley said that he expected Sam Reid to be available for the Giants clash on Saturday night.

“Sam was really close to selection leading up to the game on the weekend so we are expecting him to get through training,” Harley said.

“Provided he gets through training he will play, and he will be a welcome addition to the side.

“He had a good year last year and we look forward to him contributing in 2018.”

After an exciting pre-season and emphatic display in the Swans JLT 2 match against the Greater Western Sydney Giants, the Swans have since struggled to adapt their forward line with Franklin playing a lone role.

While Lance has kicked 12 goals in the opening two rounds, the Swans struggled to hit the scoreboard against Port Adelaide in Round 2.

Vice-captain Dan Hannebery is expected to face the Giants after being cleared of any damage from an incident late in the Swans loss to Port Adelaide.

The midfielder left the field in the closing minutes and after having scans, he's been cleared to play.

“Dan suffered a knock to his knee in the last couple of minutes of the game, but he has recovered well,” Harley said.

“We fully expect him to get through training and play.

“It was the same type of knock that he received in the 2016 Grand Final so it was hearts in mouths for a little bit.

“Dan is a resilient player and we are expecting him to be right for Saturday night.”

Aliir Aliir is expected to return to the reserves team this weekend in their opening clash against the Giants in the NEAFL curtain raiser.

Defender Zak Jones (calf) will be monitored at training throughout the week before a decision is made.
