Forward note: Yes, these ratings are seriously delayed. That's my fault (the author), as I've suffered somewhat of an episode of emotional burn out. I wouldn't think I'm the only one, excited for the season, just to see it crash and burn in epic proportions. Still, the silver lining is that the club has now consigned itself to a year of solid development - the first since the 1990s. Quite where that leaves the list, the team, and really the objectives of the seasons is anyone's guess, but I would think in tatters, given how much has been spent and invested for continual success. Anyhow, on with the ratings!
Well, another Sydney Derby, another embarrassing loss. We had the wood on them for a few games, but since Franklin did his groin against them in Round 22 last year, they've thrashed us.
At least we did a heck of a lot better on the scoreboard this time around, scoring 49 more points. When the bar is set so incredibly low, something absolutely jaw-dropping has to happen to best one of the clubs' worst-ever performances.
Fortunately, no repeats, no records, but the loss does set us on track to equal our 2017 and 1994 starts, with the Lions making easy work of their south-eastern Queensland foes.
