The will-he, won't-he merry-go-round is about to kick off, days out from the Swans taking on the Eagles on Thursday night.
The Swans will will have a difficult decision ahead of the game, with forward duo Tom Papley and Gary Rohan coming off the long term injury list.
While they're both set to be ready for selection, without training throughout the pre-season, spending almost all of it on the LTI list, it would be a significant risk to include either, or both, for the vital clash.
“It is just a matter of whether they have done enough training,” Longmire said.
“They trained this week but is that enough for them to play?
“They may not have done enough for next Thursday night particularly if you play one or two of them over in Perth on a big deck, we need to be mindful of that."
Kurt Tippett appears to be the only inclusion from the missing ground, overcoming an ankle injury. How he trains throughout the week will help Longmire decide if he should be risked.
He is some chance of playing, he didn’t train last week so he will need to show something at training this week.”
Isaac Heeney on the other hand, will resume full training this week with the senior squad as he continues his recovery from glandular fever. He won't be considered for selection this week. Jarrad McVeigh, Heeney, Papley and Rohan form a group of players that are set to return to the field in the coming weeks.
“The aim was always to be as competitive as we possibly could be for that first month and that is still our aim,” Longmire said.
“We have another week to go in that first month and we need to be as competitive as we can to see how we go.”
