Round 1 saw the Swans mount a desperate second-half comeback against the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night.
Trailing by 40 points early in the third quarter, the Swans kicked 7 of the next 8 goals, drawing within 4 points, before the Bulldogs booted two goals in a minute to seal the win.
Jake Lloyd was outstanding for the visitors, racking up 35 disposals, 10 marks and 630 metres gained, while Jarrad McVeigh was a rock in defence.
Isaac Heeney took a contender for Mark of the Year in the opening minutes of the match, converting the goal, and showing his marking prowess throughout the match.
Zak Jones' 541 metres gained was the Swans' second best for territory, but belied his 58 percent disposal efficiency and turnovers (7).
